Professor Ron Bretz shares his stories of arguing before Thurgood Marshall and Sandra Day O’Connor of the United State Supreme Court, his final at bat as a practicing attorney, and the thrills of his second career as a professor at the largest law school in the U.S.

Bio:  Ron Bretz is an emeritus professor of law, having retired from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 2013. He taught Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure and was chair of the Criminal Law Department. He was also a 5-time winner of the Stanley Beatty Teaching Award. Before Cooley, Ron spent 20 years as an assistant defender at the State Appellate Defender Office. He earned a B.A. (with honors) at Michigan State University (1973) and a J.D. at Wayne State University Law School (1976). He has regularly lectured and written articles reviewing criminal law decisions of the Michigan appellate courts. He has also written and lectured on the use of scientific evidence in criminal cases.
